Hello! My name is Dominic Santiago. I am a Photographer and Videographer located in Wichita, Kansas. I have spent the last 5 years building my skills as a videographer through my High School and within the last 3 years I have began to expand my knowledge through photography. Immediately after purchasing my own camera I fell in love with photography and I have been trying to grow in my own skills ever since.
As I grew as a photographer, I started to expand my photography through portraits and photojournalism. Even as a global pandemic swept across the world I continued to adapt to my new environment and shifted towards storytelling from a distance. I was able to capture moments that most people staying at home may have missed. One of these moments was when I learned that local students were giving meals to the senior citizens in my town.
My biggest goal in my photography is that I will continue to grow and expand my potential. During the Black Lives Matter Movement in the Summer of 2020 I was able to document a protest in Denver, Colorado. I was able to experience being a photojournalist and learn to show the story of people. While at the event, I noticed someone in a Batman costume that caught my eye. I kept track of him as the group marched through the streets of Denver and eventually found a moment to talk to him one-on-one. As it turns out, his mask was so tight that he was unable to speak. However, his companion was able to talk to me and I captured this photo of him near the crowd. This picture has since been very important to me because it is a moment in my life when I took a risk and was rewarded for trying something new. Without this experience I may not have found a larger appreciation for the journalists that provide information to the public.
